Ryder Cup 2025 Match Format Recap

The Ryder Cup uses match play scoring. Players compete to win individual holes. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.

Each match is worth 1 point. If a match ends in a tie after 18 holes, both teams get ½ point.

There are 28 matches in total:

  • Day 1 (Friday): 4 foursomes in the morning, 4 four-ball in the afternoon
  • Day 2 (Saturday): Same as Day 1
  • Day 3 (Sunday): 12 singles matches

Match Types Explained

  • Foursomes: Two teammates alternate shots with one ball. One tees off on odd-numbered holes and the other on even.
  • Four-ball: Each player plays their own ball. The best score on each hole from the team counts. The team with the lower score wins the hole.
  • Singles: One-on-one matches. The player who wins the most holes wins the match.

How to Win the Ryder Cup

The first team to reach 14½ points wins the Cup. If the score is 14–14, the team that won the last Ryder Cup—Team Europe—keeps the trophy.
