Have You Known the Major Change in the 2020 Ryder Cup?

Few days ago, the officials announced the major changes for the 2020 Ryder Cup. First things first, the change would take place in the captain’s picks to fill out the US Team.

Major Change in the 2020 Ryder Cup

The US Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker grants the responsibility to conduct six picks for the 2020 Ryder Cup which will take place at Whistling Straits. But here is the thing. It is still a long way until we know whether the prime event at Whistling Straits will take place or not.

While in the previous format the captain would pick four players. Now, Stricker can choose four players to complete the 12-man US Team for the upcoming 2020 Ryder Cup.

So far, there are 11 PGA Tour events cancelled due to the pandemic. It is sad to know it but luckily we will still be able to watch the other important events, assuming that the officials are still up for it. Striker still has plenty of time to fill out his team but this change might not be good news for all of the fans. There is still the possibility that the event is cancelled for the same pandemic reason.

The other significant change that you need to know is the change of the qualifying event for the team. The upcoming qualifying will take place at BMW Championship at the end of August. The benchmark is the US points. The top six players who accumulate the best US points will be joining the team for the Ryder Cup.

But the captain’s picks won’t be happening until Stricker conducts the line-up picks on either September 2 or September 3. so, we still have a long way to go.

With the huge changes in the 2020 schedule, the officials’ decision to change some things in the competition is understandable.

At the moment we write this, the Europe Team’s captain still has the three picks for his team. When he talked about the changes possibility, he nodded. But there is no way that Padraig Harrington would choose all of the 12 players himself. There will be no scenario to justify his decisions. While we have seen a lot of changes in the US team, there has been yet the information to indicate that the European qualifying system will change too.

But all in all, no one is sure yet whether the 2020 Ryder Cup will really happen or not. It is because there’s a possibility that the attendees won’t attend the venue of the event.
